In support of Substance Abuse Prevention Month, LSF Health Systems has joined the Community Coalition Alliance in promoting the #GoneForGoodUS initiative through October 31st. SAFE Project (Stop the Addiction Fatality Epidemic) and the at-home drug disposal company Deterra System® are teaming up to deliver free at-home drug disposal pouches to households across the country.
“While proper drug disposal may not be in the forefront of our minds with so much going on this year, it is something that everyone can do to help battle the opioid epidemic”, says Liz Nettles, LSF Health Systems’ Prevention Network Manager. “With more adults working from home and many schoolchildren involved in online school from home, now is a great time for LSF and our partners to make resources like Deterra and Drug Take Back Day available in our communities.”
According to The National Child Traumatic Stress Network, an increased likelihood of developing addiction forms the earlier an individual starts smoking, drinking or using drugs. Nine out of 10 people who abuse or are addicted to nicotine, alcohol or other drugs began using before they were age 18. People who began using addictive substances before age 15 are nearly 7 times likelier to develop a substance misuse problem than those who delay first use until age 21 or older.
This past spring, the Gone for Good® campaign gave away 10,000 Deterra® Drug Deactivation Pouches nationwide, nearly double the campaign’s goal. This time, during Substance Abuse Prevention Month, the initiative will again focus on bringing this resource to homes throughout the U.S. Please help stop the cycle of drug abuse and misuse by joining this effort and requesting a pouch free by mail at DeterraSystem.com/safe. Please also spread the word on social media using #GoneForGoodUS.
